Qiu Jie has gained international reputation by creating original and intricate artworks with graphite on paper. His work has entered prominent collections such as that of The Saatchi Gallery, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Shanghai, to name a few.
In 1981 he graduated from the School of Decorative Arts in Shanghai and subsequently studied Multimedia Art at the School of Fine Arts in Geneva.
His artworks weave together Western pop culture and advertising with Eastern iconography. Through seductive icons he captures the aesthetic of our capitalist society in a humorous yet realistic way. Defined with the term of "Fantastical Realism”, Qiu Jie’s art gives rise to an extraordinary world animated by fashion, historical references, and surreal sceneries.
